Cheap VTR...?

I feel wrong continually capturing footage from my dvx...like it works hard enough without having to slog away dumping footage onto my mac.

Obviously VTR's are the solution, but at the price they are hardly a great alternative.

So...what about buying a cheap camcorder and using that as the footage dumping workhorse?
But...
Will there be quality problems with transferred footage?
Will there be issues with 24P footage?

Re: Cheap VTR...?

No problem at all. I use Premiere 6.5 and I test a trayout of Premiere Pro. My GS50 works good to both. But I have PAL and use 25p not NTSC 24p

Re: Cheap VTR...?

My Sony DCR-PC9 seems to make a fine VTR. Seeking isn't quite as convenient as a dedicated VTR, but it does work.

The information that the NLE needs to decode P24 is encoded in the DV stream itself, so that should work with any VTR.

The biggest inconvenience is that the smaller cameras are usually more awkward to get tapes in and out of.

I'm trying to use a Panasonic GS9 but FCP doesn't see the timecode.
Does everyone else get tiemcode ok from their cheaper camcorders?
