Fascinating. I have bought a Matte Box from these guys and it was fine for the price. But now they have made a 35mm adaptor, follow focus and gears!!

They have already made cheap steadicams!!

It looks a very similar set up to the M2, even down to the rail mount...they need to link to footage or something to get people to buy it. But...that price...

I can't imagine it can be up to the quality of the M2. The guys at Redrock make theirs in dust proof factories and know their adaptors, it's what they have been doing for years now. My M2 is one solid tank of an adaptor. Be interested to see how well constructed this one is!

Yeah, I got the mail this morning. I wonder what they used as GG. Blasted plastic disc or glas.

I have a jib arm, steady cam and matte box from them and I´m happy with the quality. I also got a Chrosziel Matebox that costs 4 times as much as the india one - to be honest, they look like they come from the same factory. Even the gray plastic with that special pattern is absolut tha same.

I always hear: buy local, buy Geman, buy American blah blah.
Lots of the stuff those German/American/local guys sell you is repacked India/Asia stuff with theyr sticker on it - and a double price.

You get what you pay for - well...maybe.

My Mattebox is definitely inferior to my Chrosziel one. Plastic trays instead of metal one, but for the cost it's a great choice. My Mattebox from them doesn't have the Chrosziel pattern. Interesting to hear that. Are you trays plastic or metal?

They need to post proper stills from video shot with it, not stock plants and birds that are obviously not shot using it!

Ok,
the sample images they show look sooooooo stockfootage, the whole rig looks misalligned, at that price point, I wouldn´t even think about it...
BUT, could they theoretically pull off a decent adapter?
Sure, besides reverse ingeneering, all the info is out there, it doesn´t involve that many parts and no complicated electronics (yes, the acromat and GG are not that easy...)
When I saw this, I wondered if this was the feeling a P+S owner got when he saw the first M2 adapter offered:evil:

good morning Phil,

mine got metal trays. I think they make different quality ranges at different prices.
Just check out the differences in der rod support systems.

I mailed them , that we need real HD footage - also a link to this Forum and DVINFO.

Let´s wait and see.

I wonder how precice you can set it up with that rubber hood.

I never understood why some adapters use large distance tubes.
Don´t you need an Acromat then (less glass means better light)
or is it yust to get the sweet spot?

Larger distance between GG and camcorder helps with all the commen adapter problems, soft edges, chroma abberation, vignetting, barrel distortion etc.

The closer the camcorder to the GG, the stronger the achromat needs to be, which also adds to the above problems.

Yeah, I got the email this morning. (I bought a mattebox from them too). Theres a follow focus as well:

Be interesting to see if they can pull it off. I was wondereing if they would try and make one of these. OK, so its clearly reverse engineering, but good luck to them I say.

The mattebox + rods met my expectations, but didn't blow me away. The engineering is not bad, it was the more expensive of the mattebox rod sets they offer.

They were easy to deal with by email despite continental and cultural distances. They are based right up in the north of India.

Also, delivery was very good to, only a few days I remember.

Well if I was Redrock and had any patents, I wuld jump on Ebay and stop them being sold. Its a total knockoff.

Sure, if you have time and crew it wouldn't be difficult to copy the GG and achromat. In fact it would be pretty easy to reverse engineer.

yes, legalities aside, I commend their enterprise.
I should ammend my comment "clearly" reverse engineered" to "probably" reverese engineered. I guess someone will have to review/inspect it before drawing any conclusions.

not seen that German one, wow...is it new? It looks kinda cool but. Not sure the name is catchy enough. How about Super Duper 35? Mini just sounds a little bit...small!!

I might have to order one of those...for some reason the price list on the website is faulty as it seems to have an extra zero on the end. Weird!!

it is a fair bit cheaper than the hd redrock bundle but you would be crazy buying any new adaptor before some true footage is available

Philip,
your probably new to the game, but the P+S is "the mother of all adapters" and the zero at the end of the price tag is no mistake...
They did it first and if there is any patent out there they should have it (but being well established in the rental market, they probably just don´t care...)

Wow, I always wanted to buy a 35mm adapter made with sweatshop labor. I can't believe you guys would consider this, money and performance aside. Unfortunately this is the way of the modern world. Eventually almost everything you now buy is being knocked off in China and or India. We will see more and more of this in the future.

I hope that Red Rock can shut this down, it's ridiculous, but they probably can't. If the product is made in India and sold from India, I doubt if there is much that can be done.

Dan

and phill, don't you own enough adapters already? why would you bother researching this?
did you end up getting the SGpro after the review? i'm thinking of getting one.

cheers
