Cheap lighting solution for interviews

Hi,

I've gone a little over budget buying the rest of my equipment, namely an EX1...

A local training firm have said they would like me to come along and make a short web promo for them. This has now grown to a full blown training DVD. I was planning on buying the suggested items on the Vortex 'how to shoot great looking interviews', but this is now out of my budget.

I only have a few hundred pounds left to spend and was thinking that the easiest way of achieving an OK looking interview, would be to buy on camera lighting such as IDX X3-Lite and use it as off centre interview lighting (as it has it's own batteries) with a stand - not sure what stand would suit the purpose yet - coupled with a reflector the other side.

Obviously this is far from ideal and will not produce a fantastic looking interview with back lighting and shadows, but I am hoping that I can use some of the natural light and depth of field to my advantage.

Would this achieve an OK look? My concern is that the IDX won't have enough watts and won't reflect adequately from the reflector. It doesn't matter too much what type of light is thrown as I will be using warmcards.l

Thanks

I have never use the IDX X3-Lite but it seems that you will mix color temperature.
I would recommend, 1 Tota-light 600, Lowel Pro Light P2-10 and a bounce white card.
The vortex DVD is a most!

Or... a Tota light into a silver umbrella for a soft key, and the Pro light for an opposite side back-light / low kicker light to give the darker side of the face some definition. I've used this combo for interviews for years and it looks great, plus is not a lot of equipment to set up.
Also, the Vortex DVD is a great inside-secrets primer for the EX1. I really got a lot out of it for my initial set-up.
