cheap follow focus?

Looking for a little advice here. I found this someone selling a cavision follow focus for $450 including rod system. The follow focus alone cost $300 more from BH and EVS. Is this deal too good to be true? I'm inspecting it tomorrow morning, but I've never used a follow focus before and I want to know what particular flaws I should be looking for? thanks!

The cavision is not very high quality. It gets the job done, but you have to treat it right, and it probably won't outlast your DVX, like many others.

While it's still not availiable, Redrock is going to release their Follow Focus in the next few weeks. The unit alone will be sold in the ballpark of 500 dollars. We should wait for some reviews, since I can't vouch for something I haven't touched, but it's supposed to be really good, and probably will be better than the cavision. If you want, you can buy a cavision rod system and wait for Redrock's FF. But 450 for a rod+Follow focus seems like a good deal, even it being Cavision's.

Just another option before it get's in the ballpark of 1000(+).

BTW, the indie focus looks nice, but I can be certain that even with it's several build qualty issues, Cavision is still much better than the indie focus.

Anyway, budget for a good lens gear to go in your DVX. In fact, budget 300 bucks for the century hard stop gear for the DVX. A lower quality lens gear (especially on without hard stops) will turn the whole idea of follow focusing into a nightmare. (been that, done there).

I picked up the follow focus. Looks solid. I dunno if it has hard stops, still playing around with it. Since I never had a follow focus before I didn't know what to expect. What are some of the flaws of the cavision system? My only problem is with the rods, when I mount it in the "c" position I have no way of getting to the screw that goes into the camera.

Btw, I don't own a dvx. I have an HC1 but I'm gonna use it on a 35mm adapter. I got kinda lure into the dvx forum because of all the discussion on the 35mm adapters.

Don't...own a....D...V...X.....THIS CONVERSATION'S OVER!!!!

Just joking, but really, you should get one; they rock, that is, unless your camera sodomizes the DVX. Later!
