Cheap(er) A/C fix for your car

Heh. He's probably got a bad evaporator core and the 1200 bucks would be the price to pull the dash and replace it...
 
I was expecting something like the old ice coolers. These were 3 1/2 foot metal tubes that mounted to the roof, and you filled them with ice cubes. Then you ran a small duct in through the window, and as you drove, air would be forced over the ice, taking the chilled air into the car.
