We recently made a steadicam for our camera because we were getting some really horrible shots. In this tutorial we show you what you need to make your own with only $20. Everything can be found at either Lowe's or Home Depot and the weight can be found at Sports Authority.

Hope this helps

I used to use this exact same setup with my dvx100b. Worked great for walking backwards with talent towards me for music video work that i did at the time.

The tutorial didn't show the completed DIY rig but that was definitely not a Steadicam. Steadicams, or Steadicam like rigs, work on a totally different principles. Adding weight to your camera is not the point of them.

Steadicam's ride on a gimbal, like putting an upside down bowl on your fingertip. The bowl is free of motion (except up and down motion) and can move around without feeling the direct movement of your finger. The only point of weights is to counterbalance your camera so that its perfectly balance on the stage of steadicam and always wants to return to a horizontal position. As mentioned The steadicam sled does not prevent shake from up and down movement. The way steadicams compensate for this is by adding a vest and spring/shocks arm into the mix. This way you can walk around and any shake gets absorbed by the shocks.
