Cheap Digital Stabilized Camera Gimbal... like the MōVi but for only $500

I'm sure you guys heard of the MōVi. Well if you can't afford to buy it, you can maybe build one yourself. Here's a video about how I did it.

Maybe some silicone vibration dampers and stronger BLDC motors would make it even better. Put some bubble levels on it too.

Over all, very awesome so far.

Yeah the slight vibrations here and there are actually annoying because it doesn't feel right. If there is any vibration it should appear handheld.

But it's a good start and always great when someone challenges overpriced products.

Maybe even throw in a DIY hard drive gyro-stabilizer.

I actually was contacted by the company that makes these gimbals and they told me to remove the vibration dampeners since they only work on hadcopters... but create the wobble effect when using handheld since they're for micro vibrations from propellers. Tried it and it already looks way better. Next I will adjust the gain settings and then post another video.

So this thing stabilises PTR (pan tilt roll) - but not XYZ - only three of the 6 axes stabilised by a steadicam

I think your vibrations are from your footsteps and the like - they are XYZ movements

If you handhold only you will isolate better (disconect from the shoulder) - our arms are good vibration dampers, or of course mount the whole thing on a steadicam arm

I think many people have not realised that all of this tech is going to be majorly challenged by any form of hard mounting... especiall for heli gimbals which are not designed to deal with loads of that nature (those loads are not present in flight)

I did further tests and it's better if you hold it wide apart with just your arms. Like you said not putting it on your shoulder. Plus I adjusted the settings and balance of the gimbal. Working on a better solution for controlling the tilt using a servo tester. I will upload a video with updated results soon.
