Anyone ever come across a cheap (1K or less) camera that can record continuously or in bursts (for time lapse) for nearly 12 hrs?

Absolutely. The Samsung MX20. Out of production, but look on ebay. Records 30 hours to a card. Old model was SD, they have a new HD one. Old goes for about $100; new HD for $600. I used it for the same thing. I connected it to a 12 volt car battery out in a field and came back 30 hours later and had great footage*.
