Cheap camera for playback to NLE

I’m concerned about wear and tear on the heads if I use the DVX100A (just arrived) as a playback deck in conjunction with Vegas 5. In various threads several members have suggested buying a cheap camera to use for this function.



My questions:




  • What would be the best inexpensive camera that would do the trick? The Panasonic GS9 had been mentioned but others questioned its ability to use the Firewire port and the possible loss of the timecode.


  • Are they any disadvantages to using such a camera? Such as the loss of quality, timecode, etc.
