John, I'm not going to comment on that one.

I love the orginal Wonka movie, hmm, I'm still down to see it. I don't know about the music, sounds alittle creepy.. Danny Eleman is still awsome. Looks intresting..

Well, here's the thing guys. The book was REALLY REALLY dark... I mean like Chuck Palahnuik dark... well, maybe not that bad, but still...

Judging from what I just saw, it recounts the books VERY well. I'm stoked about this.

I met the screenwriter for this film (John August, who also did the screenplay for BIg Fish). He said that when they approached him with the project, he mentioned that he hadn't seen the original. They told him not to, that they were going to go back to the book, which was not a psychedelic musical kid thing. So he read the book, then saw the original film and was knocked out by how different it was. He was very jazzed about the possibilities, especially with such a visual director at the helm.

That's cool you got to meet him, it actually has a Big Fish fee, is it shot or directed by the same people?l...and that girl from that perfect town in Big Fish is in this...Did you see her?
Depp does look like a girl...It's kinda creepy, a mix of his high cheek bones and the feathered hair...
I still can't wait to see this...

Tim Burton did them both

And John August was an amazingly relaxed guy to chat with. He's from Boulder, so somebody in the local screenwriter community got a hold of his Mom and had him sit down with a bunch of us when he was home for a visit. He was extremely gracious, even when being asked questions that he's probably been asked a million times (.."what are my odds of making it?")

Philippe Rousselot was the DP on both big fish and charlie...thats another reason why it has as similer look...on a side note, philippe was also the DP on

That's Helena Bonham Carter (Marla from Fight Club.) Her and Tim Burton are dating. He is making another Nightmare-esque stop motion, she is the voice of the main character.

i cant stand AFI. everytime a song of theirs comes on the radio i change the channel....something about the lyrics and that dudes voice makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

I know what you mean. I was a HUGE fan in their early days, when they were punk rock... then they turned into whatever the hell it is that they are classified as now.

I used to be on that message board, and when they got big a bunch of really stupid litte 12 year old girls started signing up and talking about their crushes on Davie. The one comment that made me leave was someone saying "Everybody says that the Misfits are so great, I had never heard of them before this board, but I don't like them, they're stupid."

Or something to that effect, and like 10 people joined in and agreed with her. I was never seen on that board again. >:(

I found her name...I was talking about Missi Pyle.

I wonder about the wisdom of remaking a movie that people really like. I like Depp, but Gene Wilder's Wonka was brilliant. It's going to be very hard to avoid comparing every scene to the original while watching the new version. Just pray we don't have another 'Planet of the Apes' on our hands. :P
