I saw the trailer in the the theater the other night and I must say: OH MY!! Not in a good way either. I think Depp's WAY off on the Gene Wilder / Willy Wonka Character. I don't know. Anyone?
Well that's the thing, reservoir. Gene Wilder was WAY off on the Willy Wonka character.
The book is STARKLY different from the original film. In the book Willy Wonka basically looks and acts like a person that you would NEVER want to leave your children with alone. I think Depp nailed it, from what I can tell.
Well.....cool then. Sadly I've never read the book.....just saw the original movie a gazillion times so that is what I'm basing my comparison on. I do *think* the movie will turn out good and most likely make a killing at the box office similar to the Harry Potter films. Can't wait to see it either way!!
Actually, I disagree. Many people are put off by the way Johnny Depp portrays the character, and say that they don't want to see it because they like the original so much.
I just figure: Kids + Charlie & the Chocolate Factory = Bookoo Box Office $$'s.
I doubt very seriously if I'll be wrong about that. But YES...Depp's take on the Wonka character is odd. If most people are expecting a Gene Wilder imitation....they may be let down apparently.
The only thing that really bothers me is the umpa umpas and Charlie himself. For some reason that kid does not look like he's poor. The kid just looks too clean. The first time I saw the original Charlie, I immediately felt sorry for him. Well see, can't critique till I see the movie..
