Charging customers...

I am in the middle of Canada (Saskatchewan) and I live in a city with roughly 40,000 people. I was wondering what a good price would be to charge customers? So far, my experience has been shooting small ads around town for a company I am contracted with and on my own (well my cousin that is teamed up with me), corporate videos for companies.

What exactly should we charge for an hour? Do we charge for editing separately? Any ideas? Keep in mind this is a SMALL city and multi-million dollar companies don't exist around here. I have to be realistic.

It's up to you.

Charge filming and editing, separately.

You can charge by the hour, or do a day rate.

I film a fishing show, and charge the filming per day, and charge the editing per show.

What kind of ads are you doing? How long does it take you to edit them? Film them?

Keep that in mind when pricing out a quote for the customer.

Also, how much equipment are you using?

I think a typical camera, that's high end, would be around 200 to rent for the day. So off the bat you can include that in your price, cause you're using your gear.

Then, you have to charge for your TIME. So an 8 hour day, you could charge 400, or 650 (those are just random numbers, everyone's different).

Think of your experience. Do you feel you should be making what you quoted out to the customers?

Same thing applies to the editing.

Give me a PM and I can let you know what I would charge if I were to get a job in the same area of your interest. It may give you an idea..

it depends what you're doing, who you're doing it for, what equipment you're using, your experience level, the going rate in your area.. there are many different variables. your question is too broad, be more specific.
