I was doing some housekeeping and came across this. It was for my original quesfest entry titled Petals Fall.
As the director one of the things I want to be is absolutely sure that I understand the character. I also want to be sure that my actor knows who the character is. Pretty standard stuff right? Well as a person who doesnt always see everything thats written in text. I like to do these little who is sessions. Now usually I dont show them to anyone, they are for my reference.
It basically involves me and the actor doing a little interview type session. We first go through the character and then carry out a little interview which involves answering some questions - and then when asked x, y or z how would the character express themselves, or if the character were doing a,b or c - how would they do it?.
In this case a young actor. Anyway, I take the best bits and cut it into something and then glue it to my mind and the actors before we shoot.
Heres the result. You may not like this way of doing things, or you maybe someone who thinks a little the same as me, hope its useful to someone out there.
