Chapter Markers

How do you start from scratch entering in new chapter markers? I put in chapter markers yesterday but then had to delete all of them because I needed to add more footage to my timeline. I then saved my project and then quit FCP. When I turned it back on and wanted to start from scratch with adding chapter markers, it wanted to give me chapter numbers from where I left off instead of starting with Chapter #1, 2....and so on. Keep in mind that I had already deleted all chapter markers in my timeline.

Why would it give me Chapter 16 for the 1st marker in my timeline if I deleted them all?

Not sure exactly how to fix your problem...

With the playhead ON a Mark in the FCP timeline, you can go up to MARK>MARKERS>EDIT to go in and the properties of the Mark. You can change the name, number, and set it to flag the mark as a DVDSP Chapter Mark.

Its not an effect. It will actually say on the screen Scenes 1-5 at the top, then I will be able to click on the title that I gave that chapter marker. Go to the next page and the same deal. Now if your saying that I don't actually need to put a chapter number when I am placing the markers in the timeline, thats a new one on me.

I wasn't talking about effects (as in a filter)... I was asking what was the consequence of the numbers not starting at 1. When the numbers start at, for example, 15, does that first five chapters show up in menu correctly? I don't use iDVD so I'm trying to figure out what the problem is.

Chapter markers shouldn't need to be numbered sequentially in the timeline. If you name the marker in FCP without a number, they should still work sequentially through the timeline.
