Probably a ridiculous question, but here we go. Is there a way to change a nikon mounted lens into a PL mount, and if so would it be in vain do to cost or functionality? Just wanted to through it out there. Looking to purchase a set of PL mount lenses soon, and wonder if I had some options with my current Zeiss nikon mount set.

I just sent them a message. Wow, they seem to have alot of rare lenses on that site. I'm hoping this is an option.

Do you know anyone who has had this done?

Did he do it himself or pay someone else to do it? Very curious. I own Zeiss 35mm, 50mm, & 85mm. It would be great if I can have this done for a reasonable price. I love my lenses, but hate the nikon mount. Too much movement while racking. Its very slight but noticeable.

Is there anyone else who can chime in on this topic? Really need as much info as possible.

That's pretty much your choice... get a lens remounted professionally.

I mean you're only getting the mount changed. So I dunno what the appeal is. Your Zeiss ZF set will still focus in the opposite direction of Cinema lenses. Your Zeiss ZF set will still have hard aperture stops... Cinema lenses have smooth aperture for fading in and out without a harsh effect.

So the only appeal of having PL mount Zeiss ZF still lenses is to use them on a PL mount camera in a very low budget circumstances. Otherwise, you're better off to rent a prime set.

Thanks for the detailed response jstunzi. Really what I needed to hear. The main reason why I want to changed from the Nikon mount is because sturdiness of the PL mounts. For some reason I keep getting a slight jerk between lens racks with my nikon mount. I guess I'll be renting unless I come across a good deal on a set of PL lenses.

Again thanks

If you're getting a jerkiness, I'd contact Letus. A PL mount conversion alone will cost you in the neighborhood of $1000. Way too pricey for that sorta solution. Keep in mind that the way these lens mounts mount to the adapters may lead to problems. However, Letus released a new sturdier Nikon mount a while back... maybe you should look into that. How new is your Letus Extreme?

Yeah, that's the one I have on my unit currently. I had the good fortune of playing around with a Lomo prime lens set, and I was very impressed with how strong of a union it made with the mount. But like you said still I won't get any of the other benefits of a true cinema lenses. I think I'm probably going to rent for a while, until I experience a lens set that truly fits my wants and needs.
