hi everyone,im running on pc with my vegas platinume and i was wondering is it ok for me to edit in standard then change the file to HD?
by doing this its easier on my comp.i was wondering are there any problems that would come with this?

thanks

do you really have to go through all that, when you could convert the HD file to standard and have another copy of HD,then edit on standard then change the file to the HD,im editing with HDV

haha whoa thats redicolous. theres no need for all that. just put your footage in the timeline and render out to hd/sd whatever you want. it automatically uprezzes the footage for you if you have sd or sd mix with hd. if you have hd footage and want to downconvert to sd then render out to sd. no need to change any ofthe proxy stuff

Yes you can edit on an SD timeline and then render out to anything, however when you're starting with a 720x480 project, you're uprezzing which Vegas does really well however it's not the solution here nor a good solution in general if you want to end up with HD as your finish especially when your source material is HD.

What Eugenia is describing (and very well at that ;) ), is the nature of proxy editing which is as old as computer editing is. You take your source files and create lower rez files that the computer can handle - this was bigger in earlier days where hard drives were much much smaller and very little HQ video could reside on them.

The benefit to creating proxy files is that you remain in an HD workflow, graphics, titles, generated media will all come in default at the aspect ration of your project. When you build your project in SD hoping to just "flip the switch" to HD, you've got some work ahead as you check and recheck your media to make sure it's resized to the new project settings.

VASST makes a plug-in called Gearshift which is a proxy file creator - automates the process and is very useful for issues where CPU horsepower maybe at a minimum. Eugenias method works very well too.

Bottom line, you'll have much less work ahead staying in an HD timeline and just using proxy files than changing project settings back and forth.
