how? do i pull it straight up? twist it? it's stuck and wont budge. dont want it to shatter into my fingers

first time doing this

First of all you should NEVER touch the glass itself. Hold the globe by its ceramic base and slowly ease it left and right while pulling up in short tugs. Wiggle it loose and it should pop out. If you have to touch the glass use lens tissue or rosco paper.

Since your removing an OLD bulb, it won't make a difference if you touch it or not. You can't re-lamp this light with anything else but a newer-same wattage bulb.
Do you have an old glove laying around ? Cut a finger off, sleeve the bulb ,and use a set of small pliers to grasp the glove finger . Push down slightly and twist the bulb.
The new bulb, like Andrew suggests, should not be touched by skin oils. You can use the same glove finger sleeve to replace the new one, but find someone with smaller hands.
I would try to remove the bulb with your or someone else's hands/fingers before attempting the pliers.
It goes without saying, but i will anyway....Do not have the unit plugged in.

if it has been in the fixture for a long time and has gone through many heat cycles, it could be some corrosion between the pins and socket terminals. Put some duct tape on both sides of bulb so you can get a safe grip on it and pull that thing out. Work it side to side but very very slightly otherwise the glass at the base will fracture. If it does then just pull it out all the way with a pliers then use a vacuum to clean up. Radio Shack has a spray on terminal cleaner. Might be worth a quick shot in those terminal holes.
btw, if you ever do accidentally touch a new bulb with your fingers, just clean it off with water and tissue-- you be fine.

Thats the most pain in the butt bulb to change! Make sure its in the correct position for a change, grab some leather gloves and some no-slip rubber sheet (or similar), use the non-clip marteiral as a grip on the base of the bulb and use your gloves to twist it out (I think its a half-twist counter clockwise while slightly pressing downward)

I wish it was an easier swap! Good luck.

Ok, i just gotta ask:
how many dvxUsers does it take to change a 150w bulb?

I have invented so many new cuss words and phrases when trying to change Arri 150 bulbs. Great light, horrid light bulb socket. Definitely the most difficult one on the market to change.

Use isopropol (rubbing) alcohol to clean off the new bulb if you happen to touch it, even slightly. Oil from human skin contact will cause heat to build up on the glass and eventually shorten the life of the globe. The isopropol removes the oil.
