I was reading a post in here on changing .VOB to .mpg to bring into premiere. So it works for video but no audio. When I play the .mpg in media player i hear audio. Anybody know how to get the audio?
thanks

my mpeg is a bit rusty, try using Virtualdubmod, you should be able to strip each video and audio stream from its VOB wrapper, then use something like TmpGenc Xpress to stitch it up again into a proper mpg header file.

if you've got Audition,

open a new multitrack session, then drag the file onto a track, it will extract the audio and the video, then save the audio,

then in premiere place the audio on the timeline,

done,

hope you've got permission to work on this media?

oh I forgot, just remembered, if you have sony Vegas, it has native support for VOB (Thanks to Barry Green :D ), just open it and then re-render to mpg USING the exact same setting, that why it *should* avoid actually rendering it, and just repacking the stream.

Hi,

Premiere doesn't do AC3 (Dolby) audio; it needs to be converted to either wav or mpeg audio first.

Hey guys,

Need some help with getting some footage from a DVD, I have DVD decrypter - I have used this program before but the proceedure alludes me as I haven't used it for a while, how and what do I change the file extention to? I am using it in Premiere CS3.
Thanks,
RM

I can't remember if I've used DVD decrypter, in any case, I assume it will "rip" your DVD onto your harddrive, if so, these will be in .VOB (Video Objects) files, these are actually just plain MPEG2 streams that have been Wrapped as a VOB format, you can not simply rename the extension, what you need to do is strip the stream into Video and Audio (demuxing) then combine them into an MPEG format (Remuxing),

you can do this using many different tools, one is TMPGenc, OR just use Sony Vegas, it can read VOBs natively.

What is TMPGenc and where can i get it?

Well, good news, I found this from yahoo answers, and since I had the same question on a different post, I'll also post here - http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

Check it out, it's an opensource (free) encoding program that handles VOB files and many others, it seems to work well and there's a monitored forum on the site for technical questions.
