Century Optics Widescreen Eyepiece

Re: Century Optics Widescreen Eyepiece

We have one here at work.
It works beautifully. very sharp and much easier to frame than looking at a stretched image.
Expensive, but me or exceeded my expectations.
Only drawback is it's kind of heavy and eyepiece wont stay vertical with it on...doesn't bother me, though.
Thanks,

Brian Broz

Re: Century Optics Widescreen Eyepiece

Actually, what they are selling is the current and only model. The picture they have used, however, is the 16:9 anamorphic adapter lens itself....that's the problem.

Re: Century Optics Widescreen Eyepiece

In about a week I hope to get my DVX-100AE.

But this is what I don't get: If you buy a $800 Sony camera, you get a corrected image when shooting 16:9 anamorf. But with this professionel camera you have to buy a very expensive eyepiece to get a corrected image!! Can somebody explain how this can be?

Re: Century Optics Widescreen Eyepiece

If you buy an $800 Sony camera, you get a crappy image, horrible audio, terrible low-light performance, an interlaced-only image, a cheap lens, a lousy focus ring, a lousy zoom ring, and numerous other compromises. So keep things in proper perspective.

It is an oversight on Panasonic's part. I do wish they had included a digital de-anamorphosizing option. But they didn't. Nothing's perfect (although the DVX does come very, very close!)

Re: Century Optics Widescreen Eyepiece

But the brochure of the DVX-100A says that you get a letterbox look in the viewfinder when shooting in squeezed mode. Or do you guys talk about the anamorf lens?

Re: Century Optics Widescreen Eyepiece

I don't have a 100A so I can't directly answer. It is my understanding that the 100A shows a letterboxed look when you shoot letterbox, and shows a squeezed image when you shoot squeeze.

Re: Century Optics Widescreen Eyepiece

the only thing that i dont get ,if they came wih anamorphic adaptor why not to put sqwiz monitor mod , its dont cost money only creativ thinking :-)

Re: Century Optics Widescreen Eyepiece

Well, the brochure says that if you shoot with anamorfic adapter, you get squeezed look and record a squeezed image, when you shoot letterboxed you see bars on top and bottom and record them into image, and when you shoot in camera squeezed, you get look with bars and record squeezed image.

I hope this is true, it will make framing easyer.

Re: Century Optics Widescreen Eyepiece

It certainly would! I do hope that's the way it works. Anyone with a 100A want to verify? When you put the camera in "squeeze" mode, do you see letterbox bars in the viewfinder?

Re: Century Optics Widescreen Eyepiece

Nope, squeezed is squeezed. You get used to it though - just like you get used to viewing the shutter open and close on an MP camera.

Re: Century Optics Widescreen Eyepiece

Well, in a few days I can verify it myself. I'm just very curious.
Because I think I'm going to shoot everything in widescreen since almost everyone has a widescreen tv and a dvd player.
It looks more dynamic, and not only for movies.
