Century optics anamorphic adapter???

Re: Century optics anamorphic adapter???

Don't think so, there is no mention of it being compatible with the dvx. The camera's mentioned there do not have a 72mm lens thread. Sorry :(

Re: Century optics anamorphic adapter???

I kind of wanted to reserve my disappointment by this, but I have to agree that I don't see the DVX name on that adapter. That model also looks like it's got screw in threads! What a big kick in the pants for DVX users.

Can someone tell me how big the XL1s's default len's filter size is? I saw it in a store and it looked bigger than 72mm?

Re: Century optics anamorphic adapter???

That's not it.

I talked at length with the Century guys. They did try to adapt that lens to the DVX, but the DVX lens is so wide-angle that there was no chance of it working.

He said they've developed two full prototypes, and fully expected to have a working prototype to show, but again the glass wasn't big enough.

I asked him point-blank: are you abandoning the project because "squeeze mode" has driven down the demand? And he said "nope. Optical is still much superior and people still want it, and we intend to make it, but it's proving to be a significant engineering challenge which is delaying us."

He insists that they will triumph at some point, but obviously there's no date on the horizon because after two failed prototypes they're not willing to commit to a date.

It will have its own focusable element, you will have to focus the camera itself and then focus the anamorphic adapter. The camera will be focusing for horizontals, and you focus the adapter for sharp verticals.

Anyway, the update is: nothing yet, and no idea when there will be something, but they are still pursuing it.

Re: Century optics anamorphic adapter???

So, the Panasonic anamorphic adaptor is quite good and work. Also the price the Century will sell on the market, probably quite the same as the Pany, no.

Re: Century optics anamorphic adapter???

speculated prices for the century optics adaptor are around 2000.00

Re: Century optics anamorphic adapter???

Hum!! At $ 2000, do you think they are really competing against Panasonic at $ 800. Let's wait to see.

Re: Century optics anamorphic adapter???

Well... that doesn't help me :(

I was expecting some sort of definate answer at NAB, now I'm in limbo more than ever.

Did you talk to them at NAB 2004?

Also, in your opinion, is that Glass worth the money?

Re: Century optics anamorphic adapter???

I talked to them directly at NAB 2004. If you want to wait for the Century, there should eventually be one, but there is absolutely no guess as to when. Could be two months, could be two years, nobody knows because as of now they don't have a working prototype. And yes, the targeted price point is $2000. The one they just released for the PD150, etc., has a retail price point of $1495, and the one for the DVX will be substantially larger and more expensive.

You could always buy the Panasonic one today, shoot your feature now, get it made and distributed, and then after all that's over, maybe Century's lens will be out, and you can sell your Panasonic adapter on ebay and then upgrade to the Century, if that's what you think would be best.
