Century Optics was showing off a prototype 170 degree fisheye at N.A.B. today!

This sucker is HEAVY but amazing. No prices, only a prototype at the moment.
They told me they are working on an anamorphic adaptor to go up against the Pana lens. No prices or release date though...

I'm sorry but I don't get it. Why would you want a fisheye adapter for anything except those special effects shots like someone's POV or looking through the peephole of a hotel room door? Doesn't mean I don't like that big ol' thing, I still have to take a look at it every time I've gone by, but why?

i think most fisheyes are 180 degrees. maybe a 170 would be less distorted=more useful to me.

there are plenty of uses for incredible wide angles in photography; less so in video.

you could take an extreme wide view of scenic shots of small villages from the tallest hut in town.
there are ways I could use a fisheye besides extreme sports. i agree, i'm burnt on that fisheye look.

I totally agree with that, because the distortion is so much more apparent with moving subjects.

Still, that looks like a beautiful piece of glass.

NOT! This thing is still big time distorted around the edges. If you look at the photo above, the monitor to the right of the camera is displaying the output. Hard to see, but you can see the major distortion around the edges.

I agree there is a very LIMITED use for a lens like this. I'm just reporting the sites from NAB, not endorsing or recommending anything in particular.......

there awesome for filming extreme sports. I used the century optics one on my old vx2000 for under the rail skateboard shots.

But they are always a lot of money and you most likely not going to be using one a whole lot..

I bet that one is about $1200
