Celtx v0.99

The Celtx team has just released a new version of it´s free screenwriting pre-production software.

Some new features are storyboard, scheduling, A4 support and it also has a new interface.

Check it out at celtx.com

Storyboard! Scheduling! This is like a dream come true!

I will have to check it out. I love celtx. Hopefully it's not too bad.

This version actually works. I couldn't get .98 to load no matter what I did. We'll be using it on our next project.

this looks really awesome. For some reason I tried this before and was underwhelmed by it. But this version seems to ROCK.

Trying this out. Especially if it's completely freesky. Always looking for something to add to the arsenal.

Oh wow, this program is sick. I like the character breakdown, scene details and everything. THANKS FOR THIS LINK!

Kholi, if you put your spyfest script in this, let me know and we should try out the online collaboration bit.

I'm doing it RIGHT now. THe formatting for the script writing is confusing since I'm coming from Final Draft, but I can always PDF in Final Draft and use this to break it all down.

And I know these functions are in Final Draft, but Celtx is more visual for the stuff other than just screenwriting.

Let me finish formatting this and I'll PM ya to try out this Collab thingy.

We're going to try a SpyFest script in this too. The sharing capability is awesome. Storyboarding support is so easy - click the empty box and it opens your pre-selected directory.

Open source - gotta love it. Oh, it also opened my old Celtx projects from about a year and a half ago, no problem.

The sharing isn´t really awesome. But it will be when they implement versioning ala CVS. But it beats e-mailing back and fourth though.

I just uprgraded from v.98 (which I was never too impressed with)

but this new version is rockin for sure.... SBs, schedules, seems like its been re-vamped and given a steroid booster...... open source mofo!

Larry introduced me to celtx during drama fest. It is a pretty nice program.

This new storyboarding feature looks interesting. Upgrading now.

Yeah, I've already started seeing issues with this. Without a version system, a lot of peoples' projects are going to get clobbered. Right now, there is no concept of merging documents. But CVS should be pretty easy for them to implement since they have their own server. That would be sweet...

I would also love to see them deliver the serve as a product, so that say, you could deploy it on your own server. I don't have any real fears of people stealing my stuff from Celtx, but I can see it being a concern and making investors nervous, the exact same way a lot of my bigger corp clients get all nervy about OS and run to the waiting arms of Sun with their super expensive boxes. so it might be nice to be able to install the server on your own intranet.

Still, I am super excited about this. I can add characters, and actors and spreadsheets - where I've started doing my outlines...this thing is very cool.

I actually think they will be selling the server product som I guess you´re in luck. It´s said that is going to be their revenue stream.

I first heard about Celtx in this thread. Downloaded it last week.
I'm amazed at it. It's a very powerful tool.
Also nice that it's multi platform from the outset too.

another great Celtx feature, the ability to modify the forms. I wanted to adjust the Scene Details form and add a field or two based on some stuff I've been studying in McKee, like the value reverse of a scene.

They have instructions here: http://forums.celtx.com/viewforum.php?f=14

And they say they are making changes within a week, to make this even easier.

I'd like to encourage people to use such freeware and AVOID software life Final Draft, a company that takes your cash and then creates all kinds of restrictions that force you spend more and more to keep it running. I don't know if Movie Magic is any different, but Final Draft is a rip off outfit.
