I've teamed up with VASST to bring you not only 15 Film Looks, but other great tools for achieving a film-like look!

With CELLULOID, you get:

  • 15 Film Looks closely matching You-Know-Whose, but which render up to 85% faster!
Easy conversion of 60i clips to 24p at the click of the mouse
Easy conversion of 4:3 material to 16:9
Easy options to convert clips to 30p and/or to reduce interlace flicker

CELLULOID is a stand-alone plug-in for Vegas 4 and Vegas 5.

Or, if you have VASST's Ultimate S (and why don't you?  Version 1.1 is now available!), the Film Looks are available as Reel-Pak 1 by David Jimerson.

Download the demo today, get a feel for it, and when you're ready to purchase, you get all 15 looks in the Reel-Pak 1 collection.

Re: CELLULOID by David Jimerson - with Film Looks!

When I click on the "Buy Now" button at VASST for
ReelPak-1 for Ultimate S module $19.99*

I get:

There are no products available in this listing, or the product you were searching for is not found. Please check the URL and try again.

Is there a broken link perhaps?

Re: CELLULOID by David Jimerson - with Film Looks!

And the demo zip file ain't there either ???

Re: CELLULOID by David Jimerson - with Film Looks!

I've let VASST know. It's kickoff day, so thanks for alerting me to the kinks.

Re: CELLULOID by David Jimerson - with Film Looks!

The kinks should be worked out, having the 3 SKU's go in created a problem for how our download security was seeing it. But it's now there, or appears to be.
ReelPak-1 by David Jimerson can be purchased now, or you can just download the Celluloid demo, which doesn't include any of David's very tasty, magical, and sweet looks.

Re: CELLULOID by David Jimerson - with Film Looks!

Still doesn't work for me; no demo, and no Ultimate-S module.

Re: CELLULOID by David Jimerson - with Film Looks!

Everything should be working fine at this point. Maybe high traffic volume!

Re: CELLULOID by David Jimerson - with Film Looks!

Yeah, high traffic perhaps, as we've had nearly a hundred trial downloads. There was only the hour or so we're aware of that the system was down, earlier in the day.
Give er' another shot, apologies for the hassle!

Re: CELLULOID by David Jimerson - with Film Looks!

Why don't we wait for the kinks to be worked out before we all start panicking.

Re: CELLULOID by David Jimerson - with Film Looks!

Sergej,
Since PAL is 25fps and folks are usually looking for the 24fps, we didn't feel it was a huge need. Based on past sales of tools, we found that this wasn't something PAL users had a lot of interest in. (the 50i to 24p conversion)
Anyway, if you leave the conversion tab unchecked you still get the Film Looks.

Film Looks are applied at the track level rather than the event level, and this is why when you remove a file from the timeline, the next file you insert has the film looks applied.

We don't have a "remove film looks" button, because of the way Vegas works, we don't have a way of seeing what FX you've applied in addition to the film looks. So, if you'd done a lot of color correction and applied that to the track, we'd have no way of stripping that off without stripping them all off, without making the GUI ridiculously huge and fat, more like what Ultimate S is. We felt CTRL+Z was less timeconsuming than reopening the GU and hitting an "Undo" button. Perhaps we were wrong, so far this is the only negative comment we've heard.

Regarding the uninstall, yes, we could have installed one, but since we used the standard windows installer that many companies and most plugins use, the Control Panel or Celluloid installer are the best tools for uninstalling.

Our goal was to make the product very affordable. So, there are a lot of things we could have done, but cost is a factor. If you want a lot more than Celluloid has to offer, such as selective FX removal, more PAL tools, etc, then Ultimate S is the better answer. And David's ReelPak-1 looks are applicable there, too. (actually, we'd originally designed the looks to plug into Ultimate S only)

Re: CELLULOID by David Jimerson - with Film Looks!

Segej, the film looks are somewhat complicated combinations of effects.  It's not something that can just be unchecked without undoing a lot of other things.

As Spot said, a simple removal button would have been too complex for the price point.

Remember, the film look effects are on the track and not the clip.  You can move clips on and off the tracks freely. You want to remove the Film Look from the clip? Move it to another track, and will keep whatever effects you added and it will no longer have the look.

Re: CELLULOID by David Jimerson - with Film Looks!

I haven't used it yet but it sounds like a very interesting plugin...

Well done guys. I'm from PAL territory, so like most of the 50i/25p posse, I'm not really interested in the 24p function, but the film looks are very appealing!

THOSE OF YOU AT DVEXPO . . .

Be sure to check out VASST.

Re: CELLULOID by David Jimerson - with Film Looks!

I just bought the stand alone and I think it's quite good.
Great Job guys!

Something that wasn't too clear, but I think I figured it out, is that the 24p and then the film look are 2 procedures, even though you can check both boxes in the one dialog box.

It will render your 60i stuff into 24p. THEN, you have to render in Vegas, with Vegas' rendering tool, to get the film look that you've chosen. e.g. John Wayne Western.

Or...I'm doing something wrong. But once I got it, it's pretty cool and a bargain right now.

Re: CELLULOID by David Jimerson - with Film Looks!

Thanks, Joseph -- we worked pretty hard on it!

No, as long as you have them both checked (and have applied them to the right track), it should render both the film look and the 24p.

If not, you don't have to render through Vegas. Apply the film look first, then render to 24p.

Re: CELLULOID by David Jimerson - with Film Looks!

The way Douglas explained it to me was that to get the proper "Film Look" you need to have your footage in 24p first because adding the look before rendering would not achieve the same effect as rendering to 24p and then adding the look. (Something about how the FX are applied differently to interlaced vs. non-interlaced footage).

So Celluloid will always render first and then apply the film look to the 24p footage if both are checked. This allows you to change the looks before the final render. As David said, you can always apply the look first and then render to 24p as a second step if you really want the look rendered with the 24p. Hope this helps,

Re: CELLULOID by David Jimerson - with Film Looks!

Thanks, John -- this is about the eighth time today someone has come up behind me and cleared up something I said poorly.  Time for bed!   ;D

Oh, and welcome!

Re: CELLULOID by David Jimerson - with Film Looks!

Actually, this one shouldn’t count because I wrote the code so I know what its doing inside. But on the East Coast it is definitely time for bed. Thanks for the welcome. I’ll try and help wherever I can.
