Don't know specifics about treo 650, but generally, yes. Unlocking a phone costs about $25 - $30. I had several phones unlocked when my family switched the provider (cheaper than a new phone or locking into a long-term plan).

yes it will work.

unlocked = will work with different GSM providers [at&t, cingular, t-mobile]

locked = will work only with one provider

just make sure you only swap GSM devices and GSM sim cards.

verizon and sprint are different networks.

hope that helped.
t

thanks for the help! i was about to get myself into a 2 yr. contract w/ cingular, and i already have finished my contract w/ tmobile. so looks like im gonna get an unlocked treo 650 and pop my tmobile sim card in.

I used to work in Cingular tech support, and I did this all the time for people. The phone has to be compatible with the other carriers network. Youre in luck....T-Mobile and Cingulars networks are indeed compatible. As a matter of fact, Cingular uses T-M's network in New York and T-M uses Cingulars in Cali, since neither of them have networks in the respective markets. Though I quit a week after the ATT buyout so thats probably changed.

You shouldnt have to pay 30 bucks anyway...all you should have to do is call Cingular and request the subsidy unlock code for your IMEI (found in the back under the battery). The 30 bucks would be the cost of a new sim, which you already have.
