Cell phones

I guess I read 1984 at too young an age. I just don't like the constant contact, GPS, tracking, etc. It creeps me out. I'll take my chances on getting stranded somewhere.

And turning it off doesn't work so well, because just having one causes peoples expectations to change. Then you get a barrage of people saying "I tried to call you, did you have your phone on?" Then I'd actually have to be honest as say "No, I don't want to talk to you." That's probably not good on the relationships. :)

1) I only pay $40; no text messaging or Internet or photographs or anything really non-phone-related. Useful things like nationwide (no roaming) and long distance ARE included. I use the phone for talking on the phone and nothing else.

2) You’re only a slave to it if you answer it.

3) It’s highly convenient not to have to leave contact numbers when I go somewhere, or have to try to find a phone.

4) Everyone I know is long-distance, so it saves me CONSIDERABLY. Calling cards? What a pain.

5) The obvious convenience factor – calling from a vehicle, etc..

Cell phone etiquette is starting to develop and take hold, so it’s much less annoying than it used to be.
