Cell phone that does it all?

Hi fellas,

A friend of my girl friends showed up at our place with a Nokia N95 and I was blown away by it. It's almost like having a small laptop, media player and sell phone combined into one. I was checking out and doing some research and it appears as if this phone (along with it's new version N96) and the Iphone are the best around when it comes to this type of thing. Since I was planing to by a portable media player anyway and since I'm a freaking nerd who wants to have constant access to his e-mail I thought that something like this could be an amazing solution...BUT I find the price to be a little exaggerated. I mean, you could by a laptop with that kind of money. Is these any similar less expensive solutions out there? The main things I'm looking for are wi-fi, web browsing, multiple video format compatibility, and large memory.

Just curious, who is your carrier and are you currently tied up in a contract... because you could get some good deals if you sign a two year contract with someone or renew your current contract....

As for the phones that does it all, there's tons and tons of them, I just recently purchased the BlackBerry 8830, http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...t&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=3015 The retail price for that is $399 but I renewed my contract with verizon and got it for $180. It does everything I want it to do, email web media player and other things...

But this bad boy right here really does it all, including create word documents and so on... http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...t&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=3411

I'm telling you you'll go crazy trying to figure out which phone to get because alot of them does the same exact thing the other does, it just depends on your preference, you should also look into a Palm Trio http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...t&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=2889

And here are two websites that have great deals on phones, they also give a great full description of what each phone does.

Good luck.

I have the BlackJackII. It is a SiRFIII GPS, 2MP camera, video for web, WMP, MS Office Mobile suite and, I think... a phone.

I hate it for myriad reasons - predominantly the abysmal battery time. I can barely watch a whole movie while driving on a single charge. Lame.

Thanks, guys. I checked into the BlackBerry 8830 but it doesn't say much about video playing. I'd like to be able to play as many video formats as possible. The good thing about the N95 and the Iphone is that they have 8gb and 16gb and accept different video formats, not only streaming.
I've also looked into the AT&T Tilt, which allows for 32gb with an sd card, but it doesn't allow video storage.

I've got an N93, and I have a love/hate relationship with it. I love that it does everything, I hate that the camera lens broke (won't focus anymore) less than a year into owning the thing. I very much love the idea of built-in GPS, even though the existing google maps app does a decent job without it.

The N93 does nearly everything, the N95 looks like it actually does do everything. I tried using the N93 as a replacement for the Archos 504 portable media player, but the Archos is a way better media player and the screen is too small on the N93.

The web browser on the N93 is pretty cool, but DVXUser is pig-slow on it, and the keypad doesn't really lend itself to trying to type out responses (like this one!) on it.

The iPhone doesn't do half of what the N93/N95 do, maybe when they get a camera incorporated and 3G internet access and a memory card slot and a removable/changeable battery, it might be a viable alternative.

The AT&T Tilt is the only other phone I've found that looks worthwhile to upgrade/crossgrade to. Looks like it does everything the N93 does well, plus a lot more.

Pourquoi? What do you mean, it doesn't allow video storage?

With the N93 you can encode a movie as a GPP file and store it on the miniSD memory cards. Are you saying the Tilt doesn't do that?

I was checking out some reviews and there was no mention of it. I hope I'm wrong, because being able to use SD cards is excellent. I found it weird there was no mention of it's video capabilities. Other than that all reviews had nothing but praise for it.

I have the HTC wizard (cingular 8125) which is like 2 versions older than the tilt.
It can play video with windows media player, although I rarely use it for that, I have tried it once just to check it out.
I'd have to assume that the tilt will play wmv too.

I will say that this one has been an excellent phone, long battery life (2 years old and still on the same battery), dropped and abused and it's still working like a champ. The slide out keyboard is really nice if you want to type out alot of stuff.
