CC Basics

Yeah, I'm an idiot. I've yet to figure out how to do this stuff...

Anyway: which do you think would be better? I've got some mixed lighting going on. In post, would it be better to raise the tungsten to match the daylight, or lower the daylight to match the tungsten? Or does it make a difference?

And what would be the best way to do either? (Which filter? CC, HSL, Secondary...see above "idiot" appellation...)

Thanques.

So you want to match the daylight balance to your tungsten lights? You do not have an easy task at hand. Either way you do it, you are more than likely not going to be getting satasfactory results. I would reccomend working with what you have, as mixing daylight and tungsten light can often produce very nice contrasting colors, with the warm and cool of a scene.
If you do want to take this under hand, I would reccomend using the secondary color correction tool. Pick your light source color, either daylight or tungsten, you will have to experiment to see wich one gives you the better results. I might even reccomend desaturating your daylight a bit so instead of being a cool color, it would be a neutral bright light.
Your best option would be to post a grab, so we can take a look at it, and then give you the best option.
Good luck

Walking around outside, I realized this might have sounded a bit nonsensical...if the object was to make white white. :)

But I like the way it looks coolish, and the way it looks warmish, so I have to make a decision. Since, artistically, I'd be happy either way, the question should really have been "which introduces more noise/degradation? Raising or lowering the overall 'temperature' of the shots in post?"

And does it get worse, the further you go...indicating meeting in the middle would be the best idea. (And the most boring.)

Ah. I was thinking of desaturating a bit as a possibility. Worse case - make it B&W and not worry about it at all. That actually has its good points for other reasons, but I'm hesitant to do it. Not sure why. It just doesn't feel right for this.

(Can't be more specific, or post grabs, because of the contest rules. :( )

ahh, I see. Well, theoretically warming an image will produce more noise, however, in practice you most likely will see the same amount of degredation either way. If you do want me to take a look at it feel free to PM me, I don't think that is agains the rules, and I'll see what i can do with it. Good luck

I might take you up on that. Thanks. But I think I'll give it a go myself first...impress the wife, etc. ;-)

LOL, I swear my wife gives me courtesy nods when I show her my work. If it involves her or the kids in it, then she's interested. Otherwise, getting her to review my work is like asking her to be excited about her next OBYN appt.

She says she's impressed, proud, etc., but I can tell behind that vacant stare that she's really thinking about what to buy at the grocery store, where we'll be that weekend, etc.

Sigh.
