Cavision Matte Boxes

Hey, this is my first post, and I know that this subject has been beaten to death, but I am thinking about getting a Cavision matte box, and want to know if the 4x4 hard shade box will cause vignetting on the 100a. Thanks.

Does Overland sell them John? Just wondering because Im buying one and would rather purchase through a member here. More specifically this one :

now that they are using scharky's picture. In additon this set uo will work for me when i go to either HVX or JVCHD100 - maybe there will be something new when I go HD but this should be able to do that job.

2 - 4x4 Filter Stage Tray
Adapter Ring Set

I have a 4x4 cavision mattebox with the hard shade and I have seen examples of vignetting with some stuff I have shot. I usually will have to add letterbox bars in post to get rid of it. I only notice it if I am shooting all the way wide.

If you are experiencing vignetting with the 4x4 mattebox, you might find that removing your 72mm CLEAR filter (or any other protective, threaded filter) will resolve the problem completely. Any time we've heard about vignette with the 4x4, it is for two reasons:

Filter stacking (no tolerance for it with the Cavision MB410 series boxes). At the top and bottom of the frame, the 4x4 is more likely to vignette if it is not seated completely against the Cavision conical adapter ring AR85-72. If you have the clamp model, loosen the fixing screw and reseat the mattebox against the conical adapter.

For iris-rod / t-riser mounted matteboxes, be certain that the conical adapter is seated firmly within the mattebox step-down ring.

Rear stage out of alignment - on older models, the rear stage sometimes came out of its aligner slots. Tightening the rubber spacers most often corrected the problem.

overland is completely correct, in saying if you remove the protective filter the problem goes away.

however, i would never recommend ever taking a protective filter off the lens.
so if this is your solution, I would recommend you make sure you always put a filter in your mattebox, use a optical flat if you hafta and use the lens cap dilligently if you take your mattebox off for transport.

No Rods for me PDX

the cavision rods are perhaps the best thing cavision makes.. they are cool, light and functional. The follow focus as well is top notch.. very good quality.

I would just like to chime in here. I had the 4x4 box but I ordered the ring that goes with the XL1, it has less depth to it so the box sits closer to the camera, result, no vignetting, and I had my UV filter on as well. The filter stages clear the mic too.
