Cavision Mattbox any good?

Anyone own or used one? Looking to pick one up to complete my setup - how does it differ from the Croziel (sp) one? Thankx, I have 15mm rods.

The Cavision mattebox works well for the asking price. The essential differences between Cavision and Chrosziel are in its design and construction quality. Cavision's mattebox is made with a cheaper material is difficult to attach. It butts up against the DVX's front-mounted microphone.

Do a search on the Cavision. It is a less expensive option that functions quite well for the money. Some users feel that the build-quality isn't quite up to Chrosziel standards. I generally agree that the plastic components (e.g., sunshade) are not at the benchmark set by Chrosziel, though I've not had a failure in two years of hard use.

Contrary to the post above, it absolutely does work with the DVX100a using the supplied 72mm - 85mm adapter ring and does not contact the microphone. This is true regardless of whether you clamp it on using the supplied compression ring or the optional ($190) iris rod / support bracket model RS15IIm.

It is also one of two matteboxes I know of that can be used with the modified Panasonic anamorphic adapter.

Overland (or any other Cavsion mattebox owners), is there a difference between a Cavision 4X4 Bellows mattebox for Sony or for the DVX? Or are they the same exact mattebox besides their appropriate sized adapter rings?

I was going to buy used and I wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to compromise on image quality (don't like vignetting) by purchasing an ENG mattebox with a step-down ring(I'd have to get that seperately) for my DVX VERSUS if there was in fact a Cavision mattebox designed specifically for the DVX (or other 72mm thread cam).

Also, can this mattebox be used in conjunction with the 1.6X Century Optics telephoto adapter?

Thanks so much for the input!!!

I just got the 2 stage cavision 16x9 mattbox as well as the rods, french and side flaps. For the most part, I love it, it is built fairly sturdily, even though it is a poly (plastic) box. The rods are very sturdy. It does take some setting up, but once it is all set, it works great. It does not vignett, even in 4x3 (but who shoots 4x3 anyways) :) and my only complaint is that neither the mattbox nor the side flaps came with the mounting hinges, so I havn't been able to use the side flaps yet. I got it from EVS, they were supposed to send them to me but I havn't heard back yet, so I just called Cavision, and they are sending them out to me at no charge. They have great customer support, even if they are a little hard to understand on the phone.

Scharky-

Did you order that mattebox in person or over the phone? Because I am looking at evsonline's website and they only have ONE Cavision listed. It is for 3X3 filter holders. That's not what I want. If you have a link, could you send it please?

I ordered over the phone. They have a lot more stuff than is listed on their website, all you have to do is ask them about it.
