CATCH 22: Talent Agents want it funded / You need stars attached to attract investors

This has got to be the most frustrating thing about making movies with a real budget. If you contact talent agents that rep major stars, they ask if it's funded. If you say no, they come back with contact us when it is. They then refuse to even read the script until it's funded.

You then get your business plan together to attract investors and you are then missing a vital piece that could make raising money so much more easier...the ability to say "xyz star" is on board and loves the script. So it throws a giant wrench in your chance of getting funded.

You would think that someone would tell all these Hollywood talent agents that by giving a letter of interest on scripts the actors love, they could then get their actors more work in better projects. Yet they have to make it hard for us all. :thumbdown

Yep... you're pretty much screwed when it comes to raising money from investors unless you have made a name for yourself with a fairly large distributed film. You have to essentially build up to where you can get people on board on your own name value.
