Hi,

Anyone recommend any good resources including books? I am shooting my first feature next summer but am thinking I'd like to get a handle on it right now.

How far in advance do you cast? I do not like the idea of doing casting too soon before principal photography begins.

I don't want this to sound derogatory, just making sure you didn't miss it. There's a sticky post at the top of this forum, "Casting/ Auditions - A guide" by J.P. Bankes-Mercer. You read that one yes?

One place that I would recommend starting is with a book written by Bonnie Gillespie titled Casting Qs. Bonnie is one of the most approachable casting directors that I know and a real professional, someone who wants the best for both the producer and the talent. Her columns on Breakdown Services would also be essential reading for anyone interested in the process.

This book, though written to give actors an insight into the process would be an excellent introduction to the process for anyone.
