Cassandra's Dream

I finally saw this on DVD recently and was pretty shocked, after finding "Match Point" to be one of Woody's best ever.

I thought nearly everything about "Cassandra" was weak, and perhaps most surprisingly the cinematography, given that it was by the legendary Vilmos Zsigmond. Blame it on Woody if you like, but lots of flat lighting, very distractingly deep DOF at almost all times, lots (and I mean *lots*) of very boring, symmetrical 2-shots...wow. It looked downright amateurish. Like - cluelessly so. Weird...

The there was the dull, weak story, iffy acting...

Very, very disappointing, again all the more so after the excellent 'MP'...

Thoughts?

Thanks Will. I did a search before posting this and came up with nothing for some reason. No other comments in there about the cinematography though. Interesting...

I really enjoyed Match Point too, and I thought this fell short in comparison. However, I didn't think the cinematography was necessarily bad, maybe nothing to study to rave about, but I didn't really have a problem Woody Allen film usually is centered around the script. While this wasn't Match Point, or perhaps since I've already been wowed by Match Point, I wouldn't die to see this again but I did enjoy it more than your average film.

Now Vicky Cristina Barcelona, that was a SWEET flick, definitely want to see that again and I hope it comes out on dvd soon.
