Case recommendations for multiple Aputure lights?

My Aputure collection is slowly growing and while I LOVE the cases that Aputure sends with their products (especially how well the 300D cases are partitioned) I'm finding it a bit gangly (2x 300DII cases, 2x Fresnel Lens cases, 1x Barn doors in the cardboard box it came in, 1x Mini-Dome.

Wondering what everyone else is using to consolidate?

Can you get a third 300dii case and use it for the 2x lenses and barn doors (and other stuff)? Three identical cases would be nice.

You should just move to aputure cases for all of your video equipment. Think about your rock n roller set up - add one more to get four neatly stacked cases on the bottom shelf with room to spare..

I have a case from a nanlite 200 and while it isn't as nice as the aputure, these cases rival dedicated video cases in terms of convenient sizes at a fraction of the price vs. cinebags, portabrace etc.

I've got 8 of these plastic crates aka lug boxes - https://www.equip2go.com.au/66l-plastic-crate-lug-box-vented-610-x-419-x-312mm-ih300

SMM and others are big users of the Euro Boxes - https://www.goplasticpallets.com/plastic-boxes-containers/plastic-boxes-by-style/euro-size-range.html

It's pretty easy to make coroplast or add pieces of wood etc. for dividers. Tenba make cases for stills photography lighting which are similarly shaped to your aputure lights - https://www.tenba.com/en/products/equipment-cases/lighting-cases

This is not a bad idea....

If I had 1.5 inches of more clearance I could stack a 3rd Aputure case in my small cart configuration. I'll snoop around and see if some of their older version cases are a little shorter.

I do have 2 more of those stacking crates you mentioned as well, which fit easily in the large cart configuration.

I just noticed today the 300D cases have a zipper around the inside as well and for a moment I thought I'd find a way to unzip the guts out of the case and just plop them both inside a larger pelican, but alas the inside zipper has no zipper mechanism....

For a mod, you could raise the top shelf by cutting, extending, reattaching but that sounds like a pain.

I'd see how much stuff you need to carry in your most common scenarios. Maybe it's better to keep the space above the aputure cases for awkard items rather than going all the way up to the top shelf.

Try adding the cases to the outside, you could possibly do one on either side. If it takes up too much space (small elevator) you simply unclip then reattach.

Here is a cinebags stryker on the outside for reference:

Also, I'm aware I just said lighting cases could be better value than the gear in the photo!

If my guesstimation is correct, I think you could rotate those Aputure cases onto their sides and fit three of them across the bottom of your cart. Then put the milk crates on top.

Your guestimation is right on the money! Great idea. The Aputure cases will no doubt get torn up a bit from sliding the crates in and out on top of them, but it's too perfect of a fit to not do it. Thanks Mitch!

Now headed to the Marketplace for a WTB post....

Chris if you end up getting a "replacement" from the manufacturer, let us know how much it was. Aputure should definitely sell the cases individually for general use.

Aputure had a few laying around the warehouse so I scooped one up. Can't wait to advance to the next level of Tetris. Thanks for the assist Mitch!

BTW Chris, I found that the Pelican 1620 and a matching 1600 are a nice pair that stack underneath the top shelf on a Rock n Roller stealth.

The 1620 has roller wheels, so it can come off the cart and roll around if needed, but the 1600 is just nice and compact and can live on the cart. The 1600 sharing the same L and W dimensions as the 1620, it offers the most storage in the smallest space when stacked with a 1620. In a pinch, the 1600 can be thrown on top of the 1620 and rolled around too.

I have the 1620 and 1640, but have measured the gap, and realize the 1600 would make a great stacker case to pair with my others.
