cartoon plugin

is it true that there is a plug in out there that can make your video look like a cartoon or a comet book. kind of like that movie where keyon revee play in. if any one knows where that is please let me know.

if you're talking about the cartoon effect used in recent commercials and the movie "a scanner darkly", it's not a plugin. i think i read that they shot a scanner darkly on a dvx100 then used the footage as a guide to rotoscope the entire movie by hand.

here's a tutorial on how to translate footage into this look using illustrator. then it's just a matter of animating your illustrations. hope you have some time on your hands....

the whole movie by hand. that's way to much work man. thanks guys

Haha, yeah. It's a ton of work I'd imagine. It's a pretty cool effect in the end though. They did a great job of it in "A Scanner Darkly" If you kind of blur your eyes, it looks like live action.

I noticed toonit's beta version took so freakin long it wasnt even worth it...render times were like over a minute per frame just for a ram preview.

for one guy, yes. forget it. but get a budget and hire a room full of caffeinated animators like they did and it's no problem.

same way movies like finding nemo get done. tons of people each responsible for one small element of the film.

a friend of mine told they knew where that plug in is. i got to call them back. but he said there is a plug in out there.

plugins are great, but do keep in mind that they are not magic solutions. Sometimes certain VFX are extremly costly for a reason.
