Cartoni level bubble issue

The light goes on by itself...and stays on. I have to pull it out and remove the batteries to get it to shut off. When I put the batteries back in, it seems fine until the next time I look at it, when...it's turned itself on again. It's out of warranty so I'm asking here.

Anyone else have this happen and know of a fix short of a replacement?
 
Has it been rained on lately?
Moisture inside the dome switch could repeatedly turn the circuit on after each time out, or the timer circuit itself has a bad element. Not much else to it.
