carry the lights

Yes I think that this is a stupid question but I want to know what do you do.
the question is simple. When the working in the set is finished and we need to go another location... you put the bulb out of the fixture or simply you carry the fixture with it?
I asking this because I see that the life of the lamps are short if i carry into the fixture.

thanks

Depends on the lamp and fixture. If your connection is not very strong, as in tota type lamps or cheap fixtures, you better remove the lamp. Of course yo remove the lamps of photoflex softboxes, also. If it's something as a junior fresnel, I carry the lamps inside. If we are dealing with expensive HMI lamps or 10 or 20K fresnels (Have you ever seen a 20K fresnel? It's crazy!), you also remove the lamps.

For ENG - Run/Gun, I never touch the bulbs unless I need to change them.

Before moving the instrument, be sure the lamps have cooled off. The filament is very fragile when it is hot.

I only pull the globes on the bigger HMIs and off course the softboxes like photoflex and wescotts which you have no choice. all the rest I leave in.

Make sure the globes are cool before moving them.

On HMI's, any light over 4k (6k, 12k, 18k) gets its globe removed before loading it on the truck. You don’t have to take it out to get it to set, just for large amounts of travel.

On Tungsten, I have only seen them remove the globes on 20ks going up on a condor, and even then that was pretty rare.

It’s mainly cost, to replace a 12k globe is around $3000.

Make them the first thing you turn off when you're sure you no longer need them, and are definitely going to move. Start packing everything else, and hopefully when you have to move them they will have cooled down enough.

thanks all,
i saw that the 1000 w. lowel DP lamps are very fragile when I carry this fixtures with lamps inside. :(
