Carbon fiber strength?

All my tripods are made of carbon fiber (Gitzo). Also, I have an abundance of Manfrotto and Cullman clamps. I need to mount some accessories to the legs and column but I am concerned about crushing them!

Any of you have experience with this?

Depending on the weight or force imposed by the objects, I wouldn't clamp to CF. Normally the tubes aren't designed to handle the force in the direction a clamp will place on them and they will splinter.

If you are talking something like a little action camera, that probably wouldn't put too much stress on the tubing as long as you didn't over tighten the clamp. But I don't think there is a definitive answer for yes do it or no don't do it.

Never clamp on to carbon fiber. Do a quick search on google for something like "clamp on carbon fiber" and you'll see why.

Depends on what kind of gear. DSLR or similar, use a cage and mount to that. Or you can mount onto the fluid head. If it has two arm mounts you can use one of those. Or you can clamp on to the arm itself. Lots of options other than the tripod itself. Or get a separate stand for the monitor. How heavy a monitor are you talking about?
