Car rigs...

Where can I find affordable car rigs so that I can mount the camera onto the outside of a car. Whether its mounted on a side door or the hood/trunk of a car? Or, are there any places that have designs to make ones own car rig? :P

Re: Car rigs...

I actually just got a Bogen Grip catalogue.. man they make alot of stuff. In there they have suction cups and all the mounts you could dream of, probally for a little cheaper.

I also bought a C-stand made by Bogen on Saturday.. I was a little skeptical but was very surprised at the quality. A little more solid than the Matthews C-stand, but yet a little lighter.

Yeah, Bogen sells all the Avenger grip hardware--very good stuff. Does Bogen list a weight capacity for their suction mounts? They're cheaper than the Powr Grips, but who wants to take chances with your DVX. Anyone have them?

I've got four of their C+ stands... it's first-class gear.

Re: Car rigs...

yeah.. I am pretty impressed.

as for the suction cups, they look like they could hold a dvx just barely, but of course you would use a combination of 2 or 3 for stability.

Re: Car rigs...

I've just used the "Cinemount" to shoot a classic car driving through the Tuscan countryside. I mounted it on the hood looking back into the windscreen, on the door looking into the driver, and on the fender for a POV. Shot for 4 hours. No problems, very secure. Tethered it of course. It uses the Woods vacuum cup and the Bogen / Manfrotto 3028 Super 3-D Head. I guess you can make your own but this one only costs about $110. It works really well as long as you're not mounting on a vehicle that has thin sheet metal, in which case the camera will wobble, and you'd be better off with a multi-cup rig for stability.
Wish I had a picture.

Re: Car rigs...

If you have time to tinker (a couple of hours in the garage) check out www.dvcamerarigs.com

And when you're done building the car mount build any of the other stuff in there. The plans are very easy to follow.

Re: Car rigs...

I know this is a long shot but has anyone come across any info on those special car camera mounts that basically look like a camera boom that coming out from below the car. They mount from underneath the car and extend out so the camera can look back at the car its mounted to and be able to film the ENTIRE car without seeing a messy rig all over the car itself. I wish I had a name for you. I only know they exisit and have seen them used to shoot a few car comercials. Please let me know.
