Hi,

looking for some advice. I spent couple days of googling before posting question :). We are looking into building proper car rig. Anyone has personal experience?

It looks like most people today use Movi Pro / Ronin 2 mounted with Flowcine Black Arm or Tiltamax Arm. Is there any other alternative? I have found Rigwheel Cloud Mount but footage looks bad and Proaim Airwave looks quite good. Not too much footage online though.

Our rig is curently Pocket 4K and rigged weights around 2,5 kg (aprox 5.5 lbs) so we do not need extra heavy duty rig. I was thinking about building rig with Ronin S with Tilta Nucleus Nano for focusing. Iris, WB, start&stop could be done via Bluetooth app. This would be cheap and easy. Not future proof, but for this year could be fine. But how to mount it to the car? Flowcine says rig should be at least 7 kg - our rig would be around 5 kg max. Weight can be added, but I have a feeling that this small pseudo rig is not worth buying Flowcine.

I had ronin M and cloud mount and was not happy with either.

I ended up building my own version of a black arm.

Now Ive bought a Movi Pro too!

The human arm is a great isolator. With a ronin S you are going to have a hard/expsnsive joh to beat handholding.

If you can handhold that is your fast easy solution.

The cloud mount might work for smooth roads.. but you would, I guess need to mount the gimbal in 'landscape' orientation, I dont know if they even function in that manner. Mounted tall it would just flop around.

The ronin s would seem quite easy to build a small arm.. but you need deep DIY skill.

The other easy option would be a rig with it hanging from bungee chord.. but the operator still needs to hold the gimbal, just have some load removed.
 
Wow, morgan, your build looks great. It basicaly works same as Flowcine. Your Harley video looks very good!

Indeed but I would suggest you can do the same look handheld if you can just sit in the back of the vehicle.. which is illegal in the UK.
 
Its the M .. its is awful round corners.. complete disappointment... now bought a Movi Pro.

For vehicles you need a GPS driven gimbal and DJI mumble about it while Movi do it (even M5/M10.. which are affordable)

I'm still wanting to do this too.

How about the new rig wheels cloud mount SLINGSHOT? What do you guys think about it?

I was thinking maybe of sticking the slingshot out on an L arm and suspending the gimbal from it. Or underslung on a short jib.
I bought a Ronin M on sale end of last year but haven't had time to use it at all yet. Maybe I should return it
 
Definitely not going to bat for Rigwheels, but if you accept what it is and work around it’s limitations you can get good stuff. I’ve owned one since they came out like 5 years ago and use it from time to time. Here’s two examples that is the Cloudmount, Ronin-M (the weaker gimbal), on a Canon C100 & C200 utilizing lenses with image stabilization:

 
Thank you Morgan_moore, I hoped you would see this old thread and chime back in again. I'm not going to buy it...yet anyway. But I sure want to haha.
I was wondering if it could be mounted to a bar attached to the receiver hitch or if it that would allow a little movement that would be too much and need to be secured by a top point of connection too.
 
The engineering rule thing that look wrong being wrong says no. I needs to be mounted at three points.

My own rig its pretty easy..

receiver hitch
upright tube

then two 40in arms to cheap suckers on the rear window.

That basic build has worked for me but I prefer connections 2 and 3 to be something to do with the roofrack.
