car int - day

Ok just wanted you guys to critique my idea for tomorows shoot. We are shooting wide inside a car the driver and the passangers MCU's with dialogue. I was planning on putting ND on the windows that are in the shot so they dont blow out. Will this work well do you think? We are shooting RED if that makes a difference.

thanks

I think NDing windows that are in the shot is a great idea overall. Not sure what your angles are or the lighting design, but it sounds like a good idea. If you want to create more contrast, you can even black out or really ND windows NOT in the shot on the opposite of the key side of the actors faces.

Sounds like a good start. How much detail do you want outside of the windows? Also, how are you lighting the talent?

Good luck.

We do want to show some amount of detail from behind the talent. We are cramped up in the passenger seat shooting basically on a profile of the driver and then we are switching to the back left seat and leaning forward for the passenger. Obviously my main concern is blow outs since we are going to film blowup. I do kind of want to find a way to do a mock D.O.F type thing on the windows. I was wondering if putting thin opel on the window to make the background a little bit soft focus.

also we are all sun lit unfortunately... cheap director

The director has no money for lighting... but is paying for a film blowup?

Isn't that putting the cart before the horse?

EDIT: changed it Steve. haha

hey dont say me. Take a look at my other thread I am dealing with an absolute nightmare director here. I told him as long as I get payed I will do the best I can but I cant take dirt and make it look beautiful. Hopefully he understands that.

Rosco 3020 - Light Opal Tough Frost
Rosco 3047- Light Velvet Frost (a bit heavier but very shalow focus-y)

If you are going to try to cheat the soft background, still put some ND on there.

Considering this thread and your other one, I definitely will be curious to see some footage when this is all behind you. Good luck, man.
