Car headlights to light an actor during an outdoor daylight scene?

Great thread guys.

I started reading this from the beginning and immediately got excited thinking I might get to dust off the ban key on my keyboard. Alas, this thread turned into a great read and I can't abuse my power today. :(

Why is everyone in Cinematography and Lighting sections so nice? Why does the GH2 section moderator always get all the action? :(

Not that this helps the OP, but it is very common for cinematographers to attach speedrail to the front of a car and mimic car headlights with two "fire-starter" par 64 lights. Those are 1,200w sealed narrow beam parabolic lighting units. (normal PAR 64's are around 1,000w, i think) Best way to re-create normal car headlights, but on a much bigger level....works very well since car headlights are simply less powerful parabolic lighting units anyway, some just aren't sealed beam.

Thank you for not using the BAN button on my post. You would have forced me to use my DELETE button on you. I am glad that crisis was averted.

Hahaha... Hey, Matty, I haven't shot it yet. I did a test shoot without the lights and the silhouette of the figure standing at the other end of the tunnel with the low sunlight wrapped completely around him looks great. The other actor walking towards the canera at the close end of the tunnel is really dark but, I think 1,000 watts of incandescent light should be plenty to light him up, as he walks for a few feet anyway. I did a test today in the shade of my apartment, with a 300 watt incandescent light bulb, and it definitely makes a difference in lighting the shade. You can clearly see the bulb light things up that are no more than five feet away. I plan on shooting the scene this weekend or next. I already bought the 1200 watt power inverter and I have three 300 watt incandescent bulbs and four 100 watt daylight balanced CFL bulbs. I might mix them in the lighting situation.

Thanks Ryan. Those posts are great. I wouldn't image that Jumbos were that readily available for rental, as opposed to 9 lights/Maxi-Brutes, but they do look like a very interesting lighting option.
