Capturing

Hi,

Not sure if I want the answer to this but I'll ask anyway. I am a few months into editing a film on Vegas Pro 9.0, which I used without bothering to learn it - I know. I've just realised that I captured all my footage (11 hours worth) into a new project without changing the Template details from 'NTSC DV (720 X 480,29,970 FPS)', to, what I think I should be using; 'HDV 1080-24p (1440x1080, 23, 976 fps)' and gone straight into editing.....I wondered why it looked so carp, just thought that's how it looked in the preview.

Before I top myself, and you wet your pants laughing (I would) is there anyway I can copy and paste what I've edited into a properly staerted new project or do I have to recapture everything and start again? Here's a few details that may help;

Canon XH-A1 - Firewire cable thingy - Vegas pro 9.0 - 64 bit PC Intel R Xeon R CPU x3360@ 2.83ghz 4.00GB (no idea what any of that is).

If anyone can give me good news I'll pop on a plane to the states and buy you a car....a big car....with lazer guns. If not, give me messages athem on to the departed.
Thanks for your time

Your project settings have nothing to do with capture. The capture progam simply captures what's on tape with no modification.

You can always change your project settings on the fly.

Now, your footage may look better or worse depending on your project settings, but that's not because of capture; it's because of whatever uprezzing, etc., Vegas has to do to get it to match the project settings. This is internal and in no way permanent to the video; if you change the project settings to match the footage, it'll still be fine.

I love you, everything you've done and will do. A ford Galaxy's on it's way. God bless you old chap

He can have one too.

Whilst your on; Have you any recommended DVD burners. Picture looks so sharp & rich in Vegas but once rendered and burned onto a DVD (Using Windows live movie maker - prob no the best start) it looks like a home movie.

Feel free to tell me to read through the previous 40,000 threads that's been asked on, which is what I should do really

The machine, or the software? DVD Architect is perfectly fine. But render for DVD from Vegas, don't render out a different format and do it in the DVD authoring program.

Software. I'm rendering from vegas, saving it, then opening it in Windows live movie maker and burning it. Somwhere between the preview in vegas and playing the DVD on a tele the picture goes from rich and sharp with deep colours to dull, a bit blurry and quite jerky.

If you hook the camera straight to the tele and play the footage it's rich and sharp so somethings getting lost in the process

What are you rendering AS from Vegas? If you're rendering anything other than a DVD-compliant MPEG-2 file, then Windows Movie Maker is compressing it to MPEG-2 and I wouldn't trust that any more than I would the cat intently eyeing my shrimp.

Mainconcept-Peg 2 and Template of DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen and tried it as HDV 1080-24p which is a bit better. Nothing like in preview in vegas though.

Maybe I've just got a sh$t tele

Well, no TV is going to display as crisply as your computer monitor, nor is the color going to be as good.

I always say not to mess with the settings in the templates, but in THIS CASE, because you are rendering from HD material to SD (DVD), change the render quality from Good to Best. This is the best choice when scaling size, which you're doing.

Tried eveything you suggested and it's turned out a billintimes better, much appreciated. Switching from Windows Movie Maker to a program caled DVD Flick has made it much sharper.

Reckonwith a top notch DVD Burner Program and tweaking thatdegredation between Captured fooage and finished DVD shouldbe minimal - good man.

Sisko rocks by the way. How's he not got feature work, he's Shakespearian! Have fun dude
