Capturing video in FCP

Hi everyone, I'm having some trouble capturing video. I use a Canon ZR85 as a deck, but can't find a driver for my Mac powerbook. I went to the Canon website and the downloads there are only for windows. So is there another way?

I thought you had use a driver for it to recognize the camera, or is that wrong? Also I'm using a 5 pin to 6 pin cable, do you have to use a 4 pin to 6 pin? thanks.

thats the good thing about macs, they just work... you should be using whatever kind of cable fits the camera/computer.

with the camera on and plugged in, what does FCP say when you start it?

I had the camera on in vcr mode at the start, but the message still comes up. The camera only works with a 5 pin. So I don't know if I have to buy another or just use the DVX, which I didn't really want to do.

I didn't know there was a 5 pin firewire cable. According to the specs it has a 4pin firewire connector.
1. Plug in your DVX just to make sure your computer firewire is working.
2. Double check that you in fact have the right cable (4 pin to 6 pin firewire and that it's connected to the DV/Firewire) and thta both ends are securly in place.
3. With the cable in place turn on the camera in vCR mode and then turn on computer and then FCP. If FCP already on then go to Refresh external devices and set to play all frames.
4. If you have a DV clip try playing it out to the camera by outputing firewire.

Originally I bought a 5 to 6 pin from Best Buy, but when I got home I saw that it's only for digital cameras, but it fits the Canon ZR85. I went back and bought the 4 to 6 pin, and tried it with the DVX and it works perfectly, but I originally planned to use the Canon to capture video. So is there any program I can download or something that will allow me to connnect a 5 to 6 pin? Thanks for all help because this is reallly frustrating.

The 4 pin to 6 pin should fit your Canon camera. Look around for something marked DV or Firewire or 1394.
You don't need a psecial program on the Mac, just the correct cable connections.
