Capturing VHS...

Hey all,

Had a client who provided about two hours worth of VHS material to put to DVD.

I captured it in Vegas 6 and found that the rendering for DVD was excruciatingly long.

I didn't do anything to the video (he wanted a straight transfer) and yet 2 hours of video was taking around 3 hours to render on an intel dual-core.

It was very strange.

I'm wondering if my capture settings are the problem? Does Vegas automatically capture video in a standard avi format?

Just wondering.

I'm not sure that the capture settings have very much to do with it. The issue is the time needed to render to a mpeg2 file.

I bought a Panasonic DVD burner specifically for this time consuming task. The burning is fixed rate, but the unit I have can be set to burn the specific amount of time you need you need if the source is over 2 hours.

The quality difference has not been great enough for my customers to notice, especially when the source is VHS and you are not going for long play times where low bit rates will be required. The menu's are not very elegant either, but this has not been a factor for me for this purpose of archiving the video.

If someone else has a time saving solution, I'd love to hear it.
