Capturing VHS Help

Hello,

I am currently trying to capture VHS tapes to FCP for a client of mine. My set up right now is a VHS player (which is working), connected via RCA to a DVX100B (also working). The DVX is connected to my computer via Fire Wire and my computer is registering it.

What happens is I will press play on the VCR and the video from the VHS will show up on the camera - it plays fine. However, FCP is not registering video coming through.

On the other hand, i've already tested playing mini DV tape footage and it does show up in the capture window.

I have the capture settings set to a non-controllable device.

Can anyone help me out on this one?

Thank you,

James

Hi James,
Are your sequence settings correct? Should be something like DV 4:3 60i. Non-controllable device is the correct setup. Did you try playing your VHS before starting the capture now process?

Hi AwakenedFilms,

I can't even find the option for DV 60i. Could it be because i'm using an old version of FCP? (been meaning to upgrade lately). The sequence settings are DV NTSC 4:3.

And I just tried playing the VHS before starting the capture now process. No luck.

Ok, I think i'm just going to record the tapes on mini DV, then capture that. If you come up with any other solutions let me know. Thanks a lot for trying to help though!

The DVX has to be in VCR mode - or it doesn't have "pass thru".

I have a DVX but have never used it like that. I use another older camera for that purpose and it works fine once in vcr mode because that camera does have "pass thru".
