Capturing to Xternal Drive...

What do I have to do to capture footage to an external drive? A friend of mine does this all the time but he said he had someone re-format his external hard drive to allow him to capture video to without dropping frames or other issues. He wasn't exactly sure what the person did, so I am asking here. Up to this point, I have only been using my external drive to store my completed projects but I may need to use it to capture video since I just did a 3 hour shoot over the weekend. Oh yea he said the person doing his, had to do more than just select that drive as a scratch disc in FCP.

Any suggestions?

Ya its a very coplicated proccess P.M. me and I'll give you my prices..
just kidding..

All you need is a fast drive(7200rpm) and the fastest connection possible and thats it....
Nothing special about it..

Kito you don't know what the hell your talking about. My prices will beat yours any day.
Just Kidding
Yeah anyway DVX100shooter you just need to get a fast drive like 7200-9400rpm the faster the better but you shouldn'y have any probs,
