Capturing to HD

Is there anyway I can capture my live footage to HD. I have Canon XL2. I know it says XL2 would not record the footage to HD. I know my way to do this to capture to my computer . What I do I connect my Canon XL2 to my edirol V-4 and the output from edirol v-4 goes to my cheap digital Video Camera and the output of my video camera goes to my computer and my PPro capture it and it works.
Now what I want is to capture this to my hd without using my pc. I have seen in B&H catalog many of HD recorder. IS there anybody out there have done this?
Thanks

i'm not sure i understand...u want to caputre the footag from the XL2 to you HARD DRIVE....why not just capture to your computer as computers have a HARD DRIVE. PLus you need software to be albe to view the footage from the tape such as any NLE. If youre asking if you can capture to a HDef video device or from SD, it'll work but it wont be HDef. For HDef to work it has to be copied to another HDef device. Either from Cam to Cam or HD to HDef cam! I hope i got your question right, sorry if i didnt.

Can XL2 capture to HD instead to tape. I don't want use PC or laptop during shooting.
Sorry If I don't make any sense.

I think you can not capture directly to a normal Hard Drive from your camera.

There are some Hard Drive Devices that may work for you eg. FireStore 100

There maybe other Edit Ready Hard Drives that will also do this but generally you need a "computer" to manage the drive and the recording.

DVRack in a laptop to an external hard drive is a solution and example .

What about Brand Name Lorex L164-81 or Bosch DVR1A1081. Can it be use as recorder to HD without PC. I just dont' want carry Laptop or PC when I am shooting. I know how to record to HD using PC. I use Premiere Pro to capture my XL2 output. That I know. I was wondering if anybody out there trying to do the same thing.

I am but I use a FireStore HD Recorder as I said in my post. It attaches to the camera and records what the camera shoots.

You need a hard drive device that is battery powered unless you want to trail a power cable behind your camera like you would need with the Lorex L164-81. You might as well use a laptop with DVRack and its own drive instead of this . Much more versatile.

Thanks,
I will give a try with DVRACK.
I spoke with B&H tech today and they also said XL2 will work with Firestore. I also found out Canon just announcing that they have new products that will work with XL series. check it out!
