Capturing SD in Vegas Pro 8 from Canon XH-A1 no go!

Hi folks,

Whenever I try to capture footage shoot in 16:9 DV mode (SD) on my XH-A1, Vegas Pro 8 does not recognise the camera. The only way I get around this is to take the tape out of the XH-A1 and capture it through my DVX which is usually okay except for the occasional frame skips.

Is anyone else having this problem??

I have no problems capturing tapes shot in HDV mode.

Yes it does & I'm already running XP SP2. I have no probs capturing HDV footage from the same camera in Vegas which is a legal & licenced copy.

Off topic note: I find Vegas Pro 8 to be more buggy than v6 or 7. The worst thing is that when v8 crashes it does so very quietly - one minute you're there moving something on the timeline or applying a velocity envelope and then without warning the whole project and application are gone - no errors or warnings!! I think the old version was much more stable. Thank goodness for timed backups.
 
There are known bugs between Canon HDV and Vegas 8 - much said over on the Sony forums - I can only get Vegas 8 to recognize my XHA1 after a clean install and only once - then it won't - I've resorted to capturing everything in Vegas 7 and then if necessary, edit in Vegas 8.
