Capturing Problems -- HDV

I have 2 tapes of footage to edit, it was shot by somebody else. When I put the tapes in my Capture Cam I get this error on the camera "HDV recorded tape. Cannot playback." I shoot with a DVX and haven't ever worked with HDV footage before. Any suggestions on how to import this?

Please help asap I need to start working on this project. Thanks.
 
uh oh... this is a bad spot to be.

DVX will NOT import HDV.

you will need to find a friend with a camera that shoots in HDV or rent one to import that footage.

Kinda sucks...

where are you located? maybe someone on the board can help you out if youre local
 
I'm located in Milwaukee. If anyone had an HDV cam I could use to capture that would be great.

Otherwise I might try to sneak into the editing room at UW-M and try one of their decks. I think that might work.
 
I wouldnt just "try a deck" - make sure its an "HDV" deck, or one that supports the format.. It will also help to know what camera was used to shoot it. for instance, canon and sony HDV codecs are incompatible - neither camera will be able to play the other's tape - same goes for the decks.
