Capturing Problem

I've searched everywhere and cannot find a solution to my problem, so I decided to register and try here. Like some new DVX users, I'm having some trouble capturing in Sony Vegas. Just to be clear, I am using a working firewire card and cable, as I tried capturing with WMM and that worked (though the audio seems sub-par). My computer (vista) recognizes the DVX when I connect it, all drivers, to my knowledge, are installed and up to date, but Sony Vegas (6.0) doesn't recognize it; when I go to capture, it says "device not available", even after I select "IEEE 1394/MPEG2-TS Device". So does anyone know what the problem is? I'd really like to avoid capturing in WMM, so if anyone could offer any possible fixes, I'd really appreciate it.

1. go up to the video tab, and see if it shows a camera in the list.

2. try going to the options tab and click on "reconnect to current device"

those are the only two things that i can think of. other than that, it's probably a corrupted file or a lost driver.
 
I've tried all three of these things already hah...I'm completely baffled as to why Vegas isn't recognizing my camera. Thanks for the advice though, and if anyone else has any suggestions that they'd like to share, I'd really appreciate it.

Did you install any window's patches lately? I've had my firewire stop working after I installed updates.

Is your firewire card functioning properly? Is it onboard or a pci card?

This info came from another forum:

"To switch from internal to external capture in Vegas 6:
Options > Preferences > video tab > check the box that says "Use external video capture application"

"Use external capture for SD and internal capture for HDV."
 
Thanks for the searching chapelgrovefilms...appreciate it a lot. "External capture" is what I tried first though, and every time I've tried to open that it crashes...

I'd have to agree with you, at this point, about 6.0 maybe not working correctly with Vista...perhaps it's time to upgrade ;) hah

That might be my next move at this point...I don't know what else to try

OK...more problems...

I went ahead and upgraded to sony vegas 8.0c and thankfully it recognizes my camera...

but

now every time I try to capture (I.E. when I hit the capture button) vegas appears to start capturing the video but then stops immediately and says "Capture Complete...no video captured"

Anyone know why? Really starting to get frustrated now...any help is greatly appreciated
